Trial Separation

by

It is Ashildr who first floats the idea. Clara and Ashildr having been traveling together for well over a century. They don’t dislike each other, in fact, quite the opposite. But all of eternity is staring them in the face, and they’ve run out of new stories to tell each other. They often spend afternoons cooking meals in the TARDIS kitchen, and as they do, they would share stories from their pasts. But by now, they’ve heard each and every story several times - they’re both feeling stuck in an endless loop.

Then there is the matter of Clara’s infidelity.

“You want me to run off with him?” Clara is astonished.

Ashildr gives her companion a sad, knowing smile. “Sooner or later, you’ll realize you have to watch him wither and die, and decide whether or not it’s worth it,” she sighs. “I can’t tell you what that’s like, Clara. It’s something you need to experience for yourself.”
