“It’s OK,” she tells him gently, squeezing his hands as best she can with his fingers already crushing hers. “I had to stare at myself for a bit, too. Make sure everything was still there.” She suppresses a shudder and tries to grin at him, like she finds it funny that she’d stood in front of the bathroom mirror poking her nose and wondering if it’s always looked like that, trying to let the running water of the shower drown out the screaming in her head.
