After two years without a single moment of contact, not knowing whether he was dead or alive, a letter arrives from Harry Saxon and the reader is thrown back into his dangerous world. As per his cryptic instructions, they choose a stranger on a train and make those following them (Joan Foreman: MI6 agent with a chip on her shoulder, willing to do anything, break any rules, to bring Saxon to justice, and Rassilon: head of the Grand Council, from whom Harry stole over 700 million pounds) believe that the man is him.
What starts as a simple deception progresses to something more as the reader finds themselves enamoured with the sweet physics teacher Oscar Masterton, captivated by his curious mannerisms and surprising wit. Together the pair move through Venice, playing out Harry’s games, risking their lives to elude the danger of Rassilon and his goons.
But when the past finally catches up with them, truths come to light that will change everything and the reader realises that Oscar isn’t quite the innocent tourist he first seemed.
