There had been a time, he thought, when he would have stood up and fought back, not minding the glint of the musket slung across the redcoat’s shoulder, or the fact that he was far outnumbered. He would have shoved at the man, shouted at him. Been whispering around the church, trying to get the others to shove back, too, until they shoved so hard that something broke. He had been brave, then. Or foolhardy.

Inverness, late April 1746. Captured and imprisoned by government soldiers, Jamie McCrimmon has all but given up on getting out alive - but he still has questions that need answering. Questions about the impossible life he lives in his dreams.
