One day a four year old Harry Potter happened to stumble upon an old police phonebox whilst running from Dudley. And on that day, he happened to bond with the Tardis, who offered to adopt him and he agreed. When she adopted him, knowing Harry's fear of adults, she hid him away from the Doctor, who never even knew what had happened.
And the Doctor gained himself an invisible watcher who hid himself from everyone but his mother.
