Esther was partially successful in killing her children. Elena did manage to tell Elijah so only he didn't drink the doctored champagne. Figuring she would get her remaining son Esther proceeded to kill her remaining children. The ramifications were too great and Elena with the help of a forgotten sister and cranky time lord who'd allowed it. Elena makes a trip she will not survive
