Essence Thornton is a 19 year old living in Victorian London in poverty. She has been in this situation for 15 years, and it's a miracle that she is still alive. Especially after losing her parents at 4 years old.
18 year old Lori Bryant is a cabaret singer in New York City during the 1930s. She has lived a lavish lifestyle all of her life. Unfortunately, her parents found out about her occupation and have disowned her. Lori is now living on the streets with her only source of money being her job as a cabaret singer, which doesn't pay much at all.
Unbeknownst to Essence and Lori, both of them are about to get help from the last two Time Lords in existence.
