I recently posted two chapters of a crossover 10th Doctor Who/Firefly titled "Who Girl." I had not watched Firefly, paying specific attention to River Tam, for a long time.
When I watched Firefly, I realized my depiction of River Tam was all wrong, especially the way she talked.
I'm sorry if I offended you. I offended myself. I deleted the work on AO3.
I am working on editing the previously written chapters of Who Girl, and, eventually, writing new chapters. River may change subtly as a result of her friendship with the 10th Doctor. The changes will happen gradually, and will make sense.
While I am self-flagellating, I should mention that I did a halfway decent job of writing the 10th Doctor.
