Jack wolf-whistled.
“Looking good, Doctor!”
“Hardly,” she half-smiled, catching a glance of her reflection in the mirror and looking away quickly. Despite feeling amazing in every other way, the shower hadn’t been able to scrub away the dark circles under her eyes, or the fact that her skin was an unhealthy pallid shade.
Sliding off the counter, Jack enfolded her in a tight embrace and she sighed quietly into his chest. The TARDIS hummed comfortingly; several low boops told her it was going to be OK, that she was safe now, that nobody could hurt her.
But she couldn’t shake off the heavy cloud that refused to budge in her head.
“We’re heading to Earth,” Jack said into her hair. “I figured you may want to pay a certain three handsome humans a visit, yeah?”
“Definitely.” A proper smile lit up her features and he grasped her hands in his.
