At first she thought it was a tattoo but then she realised that it meant something so much more. Amy keeps seeing a strange mark on the Doctor's skin, but can never bring herself to ask him about it until one appears on her. From that point on Amy's life and relationship with the Doctor is dictated through the marks and the stories they have to tell.
